How to Clean A Quartz Countertop

How to Clean A Quartz Countertop
The resin used in the process of making quartz countertops makes the surface nonporous, which inhibits the growth of microbes that cause bacteria, mold or mildew. The surface also repels stains, but that doesn't mean quartz countertops are stain proof. Overall, quartz countertops, which are manufactured under a number of brand names, including Cambria, Silestone or Caesarstone, are a low maintance easy upkeep surface.

Quartz Countertop Basic Cleanup

Daily maintenance on a quartz countertop includes promptly wiping up food spills before they have had time to set. A clean washcloth and soapy water will do the job. If deeper cleaning is required, or if you wish to disinfect the countertop, spray a multi-surface cleaner over your countertop and let it sit for a few minutes. Then wipe with a wet cloth, paper towel or a non-abrasive sponge.
Different manufacturers have approved specific cleaners to use on their countertops. For instance, Cambria-approved cleaners include disinfecting or sanitizing wipes like Lysol or Clorox wipes, as well as multi-surface cleansers. Other quartz countertop manufacturers, such as Silestone, recommend using mild household surface spray cleaners such as 409 or Windex. These cleaners also help disinfect your countertop. But remember that all quartz manufacturers recommend that you avoid using any harsh chemicals, such as bleach or abrasive cleaners, since they can damage the surface.

Permanent Marker

The best defense for permanent marker stains is to keep permanent marker away from your quartz countertop. If a permanent marker does leave a mark on your quartz countertops, first clean the area with soap and plenty of water. Next, you can use an oil-based stain remover and cleanser, such as Goo-Gone. Carefully work a small amount into the stain on the quartz surface with a rag. Rinse the area with plenty of water and pat dry.

Cooking Grease

If grease comes into contact with the quartz countertop, wipe it up right away. If it has settled or congealed on the countertop, spray the countertop with a kitchen degreasing product such as 409 or Simple Green; then blot the area with a wet sponge and plenty of water.
