How to Fix Chips in a Quartz Countertop

Quartz countertops are popular in bathroom and kitchen design due to their wide range of colors and designs, easy care and durability. Made from natural quartz mixed with epoxy resins, engineered quartz is harder than granite and naturally scratch-resistant. Quartz is not indestructible, however. The material can chip under the stress of daily wear and tear, but small chips can be fixed without calling in a professional as long as you hold on to the pieces that have chipped out.

·         Clean the damaged area in the countertop thoroughly with an ammonia-based cleaner and wipe it dry. Acetone can be substituted for the ammonia-based cleaner if necessary.
·         Put on gloves, then pour a small amount of fast-drying cyanoacrylate glue into the void. Fill the hole but be careful not to overfill it.
·         Place the chipped piece into the space and press it in. The glue will begin to set almost immediately.
·         Wait approximately 24 hours for the glue to cure or refer to the tube for the manufacturer's directions on curing time.
·         Hold a razor blade at an angle then gently scrape back and forth across the repair area to remove any glue residue on the countertop. Take your time to ensure that you are not pulling the set glue out of the repaired area.
